Trump Cards of IPL 9 – Part 2

Several teams have decided to stick to the players who’ve brought them success in the past, adding a few unheralded players to solidify their IPL squad, however newbies Gujarat Lions have sprung a surprise with some top signings in their ranks.

‘CHAMPION’ IN THE RANKS: DJ BRAVO

Dwayne Bravo seems to be getting better with age and having just won the World T20 his confidence is the stuff of champions. With a stunning record of 2000 runs and 100 wickets in T20s since 2013, he is easily one of the most useful players to have in your side. Capable of some big hitting when required and his uncanny ability to choke the opposition batsmen at the death, DJ ‘Çhampion’ Bravo just might prove the difference in the Gujarat Lions gunning for the title in their maiden IPL season. What’s more, he became the first bowler to pick 300 T20 wickets with a 4 for 22 in the win against Punjab in the Lions’ opening fixture, as they sit pretty at the top of the table.

ENGLAND’S LETHAL WEAPON: JOS BUTTLER

He is the man that has made England a major force to be reckoned with in the shortest format – possessing a wide range of shots and the ability to clear the fence with ease. Coming in to bat in the middle order, Buttler can easily turn on the run rate without wasting much time. Making his debut in the IPL this season, the 25 year-old has already struck 14 half centuries in T20s and is keen to help Mumbai retain their crown.

PUNJAB’S THRILLER SET TO DELIVER THIS IPL: DAVID MILLER

In a side with Glen Maxwell, this guy holds his own with his firebrand style of cricket. Taking over the captaincy from George Bailey, the 26 year-old South African can wreak havoc with bat in hand. Scoring his runs at a strike rate of nearly 140, the southpaw has 22 half centuries and a ton to his name in the shortest format.

KOLKATA’S T20 LYNCHPIN: ANDRE RUSSELL

Alongside DJ Bravo, Andre Russell is the only other T20 cricketer to score 2000 runs and claim 100 wickets since 2013. The burly all-rounder has been a vital cog in the Knight Riders’ arsenal tasting success in the triumphant 2014 IPL season. On the back of his stellar performances at the World T20 – Gambhir will be hoping for an encore from the West Indian who is as deadly with bat and ball.
