Top 5 celebrity appearances on WWE

The world of wrestling and entertainment collide when the World Wrestling Entertainment company hosts its events viz. RAW, Wrestle Mania and the like. It is surprising how many adults flock to watch these events loaded with over-the-top drama, in spite of knowing fully well that it is all scripted. The producers definitely are onto something and the secret formula that mixes sport with ‘reality’ television has been working for ages now. Yet, the shows are occasionally injected with a further dose of entertainment by getting celebrities to take center-stage. Down the years, the appearances of popular and (in)famous celebrities from various walks of life has kept fans and viewers enthralled to the WWE. Here we take a look at the 5 best celebrity appearances from memory.

Mike Tyson

In WrestleMania XIV professional boxer and former World Heavyweight Champion Mike Tyson came down to be the referee in a match between Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold Steve Austin. Shawn Michael loyalists will say that there was more than just a bit of impartiality from the referee’s side but who doesn’t want to watch Iron Mike dole out some punches of his own?

However, this was not Tyson’s only appearance on WWE as he also made another appearance on RAW (right before Wrestlemania XIV) where he was introduced to the fans by Vince McMahon only for Steve Austin to make an entry and start a brawl with the boxer.

Hugh Jackman

On a roadshow to promote his film X-Men: Days of Future Past, the big Australian actor made a stop at Monday night RAW. The Wolverine actor was even interrupted by fan-favorite wrestler Damian Sandow who was pretending to be Magneto, the X-Men’s arch-enemy.

Donald Trump

Back when Trump was not running for president of the United States and was only gunning to be the world’s richest man, he made an appearance on WWE to take on the owner of the franchise, Vince McMahon in a match christened ‘Battle of the Billionaires.’ This match was officiated by McMahon’s screen enemy, Stone Cold Steve Austin.

In case you didn’t know, Vince McMahon and Donald Trump have been friends for many years.

Shaquille O’neal

The seven-foot plus Lakers legend appeared and hosted Monday night RAW and even got his hands dirty by taking on the WWE’s own seven-fighter – The Big Show.

Wayne Rooney

One for the football fans. Manchester United and England captain made an appearance from the audience but hit the headlines when he slapped WWE wrestler King Barrett after the Irishman insulted him in front of his son even referring to his dip in form at club level. Scripted, again, of course but one wonders what kind of an impression was left on little Kai.

If you watch this video carefully you can even catch a glance of Rooney’s former team-mates Darren Fletcher and Ryan Giggs.

Special mention: Kim Kardashian

Such has been Kim Kardashian’s rise to popularity that the reality TV star was even invited on the WWE stage to host Wrestlemania XXIV. Apart from this, Kim even participated in a special episode where she battled it out with Carmen Electra in a special celebrity match.
