STAT ATTACK – INDIA WIN BY AN INNINGS IN ANTIGUA

After an all-around performance in the Antigua Test, India now lead the 4-Test series against West Indies by 1-0. Kohli’s double-ton & Ashwin’s ton & seven-wicket haul were the highlights among other brilliant performances from Mohammad Shami & Umesh Yadav.

India certainly will go into the second Test as favourites, but before that, here’s a look at some interesting stats from the first Test –

  1. The innings & 92 runs win against West Indies was India’s biggest Test win outside of Asia.
  2. The win was India’s 4th innings victory outside Asia & their first in West Indies.
  3. The loss to India in the Antigua Test was West Indies’ biggest loss at home & their fifth innings loss in West Indies.
  4. This was only the 2nd time India won in their last 24 Tests that were played outside Asia.
  5. Ashwin’s 7/83 in the second innings is the best figures for an Indian bowler in West Indies. He bettered Subhash Gupte’s figures of 7/162 at Port of Spain in 1952/53.
  6. Ashwin is only the third player to score a century and take seven wickets in the same Test. Only Jack Gregory & Ian Botham (twice) has achieved this before.
  7. Since his Test debut in November 2011, Ashwin has won 5 Man of the Match awards – the most by an Indian in Tests.
  8. Ashwin has 17 five-wicket hauls in 33 Tests so far – the moat by a spinner in as many matches.
