Portugal vs Iceland

PORTUGAL vs ICELAND HEAD-TO-HEAD

Portugal & Iceland have only played each other twice. Both the matches were in the qualifying stages of Euro 2012. Portugal won the matches 3-1 & 5-3

PORTUGAL

Fernando Santos has won his first seven matches as the manager of the Portuguese national team. He is the first Portugal manager to do so.

Portugal’s 11 goals during qualifying is the second lowest for any team that has qualified for Euro 2016.

Portugal’s record in opening games at European Championships isn’t the most impressive – 2 wins in 6 matches.

As hosts of Euro 2004, Portugal lost their opening match but went on to reach the final, where they lost to Greece.

For a team that has never won the European Championships, Portugal has made the most semi-final appearances – 4.

Since his first Euro appearance in 2004, Ronaldo has played a part (scored or assisted) 9 of the 21 Portugal goals in the tournament.

ICELAND

During the qualifying rounds of Euro 2016, Iceland used just 20 players. This is the joint lowest with Austria.

Iceland scored 9 goals from set-pieces during qualifying. Only Switzerland with 10 had more.

Gylfi Sigurdsson, with 6 goals from 11 efforts during qualifying, was Iceland’s top scorer during qualifying.

Sigurdsson’s 447 passes, 13 tackles & 3 assists were also the highest for any Icelandic player during the qualifying rounds.
