Brazilian club Corinthians has sent the attacker out on loan to the New York club.

New York City FC has signed Colombian Steven Mendoza on loan from Brazilian outfit Corinthians. 

Mendoza joins after a stellar loan stint with Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League, where he was named Hero of the League and won the golden boot with 13 strikes in 16 games.

“I think Mendoza will be an exciting player to watch and will bring further pace and creative ability to the squad,” club sporting director Claudio Reyna said in team release. “He has good experience in Brazil with Corinthians and has played abroad in India – so he also has experience playing outside of South America. We are confident that he will adapt well to MLS and be an important player for us moving forward.”

NYCFC manager Patrick Vieira thinks the young forward had plenty to add to the club’s attack. 

“First of all, Mendoza brings additional pace up front and is really good in the one-v-one situations,” he said. “Technically he’s a fantastic player and can score goals. He’s another young talented player that we add to our roster and he will be really important for us this season. ”
