New Horizon for Sunrisers

After faltering towards the final stages of last season, the Sunrisers capitulated from number 2 to dropping out of the top 4 disappointing the Hyderabad faithful. This time around, with a refreshed and energized squad in their ranks – Coach Tom Moody is banking on their strength in balance to take them through.

Led by David Warner, the Sunrisers boast of a healthy mix of domestic & international talent with the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Ashish Nehra and Kane Williamson and Moises Henriques in their arsenal.

While any batting unit comprising of David Warner, Dhawan, Kane Williamson and Eoin Morgan would worry the opposition, Tom Moody will be concerned by the fact that none of them had a decent outing at the World T20 hitting poor form. That said, Warner & Dhawan will be key if the Hyderabadis are to put runs on the board and click as a unit. It will be interesting to see which of the Kiwi or English skipper get the nod in the early stages as the prized international pick, with the all-rounder Moises Henriques set to win his spot.

Both Williamson and Morgan can destroy any bowling attack on their day, but with just 4 foreigners allowed in the eleven, Warner is set to go for balance than a batting heavy unit and hence pick Henriques and a foreign bowler.

Naman Ojha can make a decent contribution with the bat while also donning the keeper’s gloves, while T Suman too can pack a punch. Australian Moises Henriques who has been retained could be crucial for the Sunrisers.

While their batting form is a cause for concern – the Sunrisers’ bowling will be their strength with Ashish Nehra leading the line with Bhuvaneshwar Kumar for company in the pace department. It will be interesting to see whether Kiwi pacer Trent Boult or the mercurial youngster Mustafizur Rahman gets the skipper’s nod. While Boult was an unused substitute in the World T20, the Bangladeshi has proven he belongs to the big stage.

Karn Sharma will be the main spinner in the side, hoping to gain from spin bowling coach Muttiah Muralitharan’s guidance as the Sunrisers Hyderabad look to cement their position as a top 4 mainstay and gun for the IPL crown.
