Former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has had his Inter Milan contract cancelled after failing to make an appearance this season. The 34-year-old Serbian left Old Trafford to join the Nerazzurri in July 2014 and made 28 competitive appearances for the San Siro side, scoring one goal.

Hernia and back injuries meant the centre-back failed to feature for Inter this season and he is now on the lookout for a new club.

Vidic told inter.it: “Thanks to all the Nerazzurro family and to the Inter fans. I wish the club all the best for the future. Forza Inter!”

The one-time Red Star Belgrade defender won the Champions League and five Premier League titles with United.

Is Vidic MLS-bound?

Now that Vidic has officially parted ways with Inter Milan, there is a distinct poosibility that the Serb could be on his way to the MLS in the US.

Vidic had been linked to DC United in recent weeks; the MLS side and Inter share an owner, Erick Thohir.

However, ESPN FC’s Jeff Carlisle reported last week that DC United general manager Dave Kasper said that club was not interested in bringing Vidic aboard, which appears to take them out of the running.

While no concrete links to other MLS teams have emerged of late, speculation continues to mount that he could join the league, and being a free agent would certainly make the 34-year-old more appealing to potential teams.
