Chasing 173, Pakistan were tottering at 120/6 when their captain walked in to bat. Requiring 53 from 20 balls, the maverick outfit needed an Afridi special. And they almost got one! There were several concerns over the viability of day-night Tests and the pink ball. Even current players such as Mitchell Starc and Steve Smith remained skeptical. But dispelling all theories, the inaugural day-night Test attracted record numbers as the Adelaide crowd soaked in the atmosphere.

In a shocking display of ‘how not to make umpiring decisions’, 3rd umpire Nigel Llong refused to overturn the on-field call even though there was a clear mark on Hotspot where Nathan Lyon had top-edged one to slips. Australia were 118/8 and on the verge of conceding a sizeable first innings lead. However, Llong had the final say as his howler changed the complexion of the match drastically.

South Africa’s remarkable run of spending 9 years on the road without a series loss was finally brought to an end when the Indian spinners demolished the visitors on a raging turner in Nagpur. Virat Kohli’s men have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the Test series which continued India’s impressive record in halting astonishing cricket streaks.
