Welcome to our live blog for regular updates of the 4th day in the final Test match at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi between India and South Africa.

After Ajinkya Rahane reached his century, India declared and set the visitors an improbable target of 481. The South African batsmen defied all odds and put on an exhibition of patience. Apart from Ashwin, none of the other bowlers could prise out wickets on a pitch that had become slower. India will need to work hard tomorrow to breach the defence of Hashim Amla and his troops.

3rd Session:

16 30: South Africa have blocked their way to stumps on Day 4 at 72/2. A resolute performance from the Proteas to deny India. Hashim Amla has led from the front with a determined knock.

15 35: The final hour is upon us. Virat Kohli is now employing Dhawan and Vijay in tandem. Yes, with the ball. Neither the batsmen nor Dhawan/Vijay themselves have any clue what their off-spinners will do.

15 20: AB De Villiers is playing an uncharacteristic knock. He has faced 31 deliveries and not yet gotten off the mark as South Africa’s run-rate slips below 1.

14 43: Ashwin strikes with a stunning delivery to take out Bavuma. An extraordinary spell from the Tamil Nadu off-spinner who is giving it everything by applying relentless pressure. South Africa 49/2.

14 35: Amla pulls out a surprise by accepting Ashwin’s flight and sends the ball to the cover boundary. A rare attacking stroke from the South African captain.

14 30: Temba Bavuma begins the session with an attacking shot and almost chops it on to his stumps. Yadav is clocking serious pace.

2nd Session:

14 10: Tea time on Day 4 in Delhi. South Africa have faced 34 overs and scored 35 runs without losing any wicket. Amla and Bavuma are looking immovable, currently.

14 00: India are getting a touch frustrated with the proceedings. Amla has played 105 balls and scored a grand total of 6 runs. However, the ‘Mighty Hash’ and Bavuma are displaying enormous application.

13 30: South Africa are looking solid as they have unveiled a ‘blockathon’. Amla is fighting hard with a gritty performance.

13 00: Hashim Amla finally gets off the mark with a streaky inside edge. Jadeja and Ashwin are causing all sorts of problems in tandem.

12 40: Things are slow going at the moment with South Africa at 7/1. Hashim Amla has faced 24 balls without scoring a single run. Gritty batting from both batsmen against the disciplined Indian seamers.

12 10: Umesh Yadav gets us underway in the post-lunch session. Are the Indians targeting Hashim Amla with pace?

1st Session:

11 30: Lunch at the Feroz Shah Kotla with South Africa grappling for survival. How long till the cookie crumbles again?

11 25: Ashwin gets the early wicket for India with an nicely tossed up delivery which Dean Elgar promptly edges to slip. South Africa 5/1 as the trial by spin continues at both ends.

11 00: Yes, he indeed joins the illustrious list. After Rahane has reached his century, India have declared. The target for South Africa will be 481.

10 35: Rahane smashes a Imran Tahir googly into the confectionery stall. He requires only 13 more runs to join Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli as Indian batsmen to have scored centuries in each innings of a Test match.

10 30: Drinks time in Delhi. India are 227/5. Rahane is on 78 as the lead has grown to 440. How long will skipper Kohli wait as Rahane is on the verge of a ton?

10 20: The pitch is deteriorating rapidly with every passing delivery. South Africa are in for a torturous day.

10 15: Rahane is inching towards another hundred. Only 25 more runs to go. Will he continue playing his shots as the landmark gets closer? No signs of a declaration, yet. Jadeja is padded up in the dressing room.

10 00: A massive disappointment for the Delhi crowd. But Rahane is motoring towards his 2nd century of the match as the lead has crept to 425. No team has scored beyond 420 in any fourth-innings in Asia.

09 55: India 211/5. Virat Kohli perishes as Kyle Abbott makes use of the uneven bounce in the pitch to trap the Indian captain. A fine innings comes to an end.

09 50: Rahane is showing positive intent by unleashing a flurry of shots. Morne Morkel is dispatched over the third-man for a six in a shot that is reminiscent of Sachin Tendulkar taking on Brett Lee in Perth. He has quickly moved on to 68.
