High stakes as Chelsea host Liverpool – Preview

Chelsea's Diego Costa will hope to triumph over Liverpool's Martin Skrtel.
[box type=”shadow” align=”alignleft” class=”” width=””]Prediction: The initial glimpse of Liverpool FC coming back on course should be evident. Spoiling Chelsea’s chances with a draw or with a goal or two is likely. We go with Liverpool on both counts.[/box]

Chelsea's Diego Costa will hope to triumph over Liverpool's Martin Skrtel.MUST. NOT. LOSE. Three words Jose Mourinho will swear by come Saturday when Chelsea host Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

It’s a massive game for both managers, one who desperate to reinvigorate a side that were crowned champions last year, and another who is eager to showcase his tactical acumen for a team that has underachieved for the best part of the last 25 years.

Jose Mourinho, the Chelsea boss, may be the Chosen One, but his side’s recent run of form has had nothing to do with choice. A loss at West Ham followed by a League Cup exit at the hands of Stoke has left the manager in dire straits. There is now a scenario at Stamford Bridge, where another defeat could lead to Mourinho being shown the door.

One the other hand, over at Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp is in the ascendancy. After a string of draws, the new manager registered his first win, beating Bournemouth 1-0 in the League Cup. Now, fans will be hoping Klopp opens his winning account in the Premier League as well when Liverpool travel to Chelsea.

Chelsea and Liverpool have had contrasting luck in the recent past. And as far as injuries go, the situation remains the same. While Chelsea may miss out on a few key players going into the game – Diego Costa and Pedro will have to take late fitness tests – Liverpool welcome back a potential match-winner in Christian Benteke.

As far as history goes, Chelsea are unbeaten against Liverpool in their last six meetings. And Jose Mourinho will look to refer to that record and inspire his side. But if Jurgen Klopp can galvanise his men, the stage might just be set for Liverpool to drive yet another nail in the proverbial Chelsea coffin.
