After 79 days and 60 games, the 2015 Hero ISL finally reaches its climax as FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC take on each other in the finals of the competition at the Fatorda Stadium.

FC Goa

Zico’s men have definitely been the entertainers of the 2015 Indian Super League, with them playing some attractive attacking football and scoring a lot of goals this season.

However, while they were able to get some big margin wins against Mumbai City (7-0) and Kerala Blasters (5-1), they also recorded some humiliating defeats against Chennaiyin (0-4) and Atletico de Kolkata (0-4). Nevertheless, they ended the league stages in style, finishing at the top of the 2015 ISL table.

The Gaurs were outplayed by Delhi Dynamos in the first leg semifinals, where they were defeated 1-0. However, they managed to make a strong comeback in the second leg, where they managed to record a comfortable 3-0 win at the Fatorda Stadium. Now only Chennaiyin FC stand in between FC Goa and the 2015 ISL trophy.

Zico’s men have a pretty balanced record against Chennai this season, winning one and losing one in the league stages. However, while they were able to record a 2-0 at Chennai, they suffered a heavy 0-4 defeat against the Super Machans at home.

Although the final is being played in Goa’s own backyard, they will be little wary of Chennai, who have been in terrific form of late.

Chennaiyin FC

Despite starting their campaign on a very poor note, the Super Machans managed to make an excellent comeback to book a place in the finals of the 2015 ISL.

At one point of the season, Chennaiyin FC found themselves rock-bottom in the table, following successive defeats in three fixtures against Goa, NorthEast and Atletico de Kolkata. However, they managed to bounce back in supreme fashion, recording back-to-back wins in their last three fixtures to book a place in the playoffs of the competition.

Marco Matarezzi’s men were absolutely lethal in the first leg semifinals as they thumped defending champions Atletico de Kolkata 3-0. However, they seemed to take their foot of the gas in the second leg at the Salt lake Stadium, where they ended up losing the game 1-2.

With the likes of Stiven Mendoza (top goalscorer this season) and Apoula Edel (most cleansheets this season) in their ranks, Chennaiyin are the slight favourites to lift the 2015 ISL trophy. Still Chennai will not be taking this game lightly as FC Goa are also a very formidable opponent.
