Liverpool travel to Switzerland to take on FC Sion in their final group fixture of the Europa League as they look to finish at the top of their pool.

The Reds have done pretty well in the Europa League so far, with them currently sitting at the top of Group B, following two wins and three draws.

Despite not suffering any defeats, Liverpool’s performance in the Europa League under former boss Brendan Rodgers was pretty poor, with the Merseyside club only managing to pick up two points from their first two fixtures against Bordeaux and Sion.

However, after Jurgen Klopp’s appointment in October, the Reds were able to pick up seven points from their next three games. And this resulted in them sealing a place in the round of 32 of the Europa League.

The Merseyside club haven’t exactly been flamboyant under Klopp in the Europa League, with the Reds managing their two wins against Bordeaux and Rubin Kazan by the narrowest of margins. However, Liverpool have definitely improved a lot since the former Borussia Dortmund manager’s appointment.

Liverpool will certainly be looking to beat Sion on Thursday, although a draw would also not be a bad result (as the Reds would still finish at the top of Group B). However, a defeat will see the Merseysiders their top place to the Swiss side.

The Swiss side will also certainly be looking for nothing less than a win against Liverpool on Thursday, even though they only need a point to ensure their progress in the European competition.

Sion will probably be a little heartened by the fact that they were able to hold the Reds in a 1-1 draw at Anfield, when these two sides last met on October 1. However, since then, a lot of changes have taken place at Liverpool, with the Reds appointing Klopp as their new manager after Rodgers’ dismissal on October 4.

Liverpool have definitely become a better side under Klopp and this will be a bit of a problem for Sion as they prepare to face the Reds on Thursday.

Sion have themselves done pretty well in the Europa League this season, with the Swiss side picking up eight points from five games.

Apart from their 0-2 defeat at Rubin Kazan, Didier Tholot’s side have done well to record two wins and two draws from their other group fixtures in the Europa League.

Although Sion’s place in the next round of the Europa League is all but confirmed, they will not be taking this match lightly as a defeat could see them get knocked out of the competition.
