ENGLAND vs SRI LANKA – PREVIEW

Amidst all the exit chaos – Brexit & England’s Euro exit – the English cricketers have given a fair account of themselves in the England vs Sri Lanka ODI series. The 5-match series has covered almost all bases in the three ODIs that have been played so far – a tie in the first, a record England win in the second and a washout in the third!

The fourth ODI at The Oval, with the series poised at 1-0, presents an uphill task for Sri Lanka. The visitors have lacked in impulse throughout the tour of England. After the debacle of the tests, the Lankans did try to put up a fight in the shorter version of the game, only for England to stub their efforts. While injuries have set them back, it also brought to the fore a severe lack of backup resources in Sri Lanka’s cricketing arsenal.

England have dominated the visitors from the onset of their tour. For them it’s a matter of showing resolve to close out the series. Though a lot of their players haven’t been tested enough in the series, because a 10-wicket win & a washout, England will be confident of their capabilities of seeing through a series win.

A lot of course depends on the weather and if the rains hold-up, England would be gutted if they don’t warp the series with a match to spare.

ENGLAND vs SRI LANKA STATS & FACTS

The last time England & Sri Lanka played at The Oval, two years back, the hosts notched up a 81-run win on Duckworth-Lewis in a rain-affected match.

England wrapped up the inaugural super series with their victory at Edgbaston and lead 14-4 after the Bristol washout.
