CROATIA vs PORTUGAL – EUROPEAN CHAMPIONCHIP 2016 (ROUND OF 16)

CROATIA vs PORTUGAL HEAD-TO-HEAD

Croatia have lost all their matches against Portugal, conceding 6 goals & scoring none.

They’ve met at a major tournament only once – Euro 1996 where Portugal won 3-0.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal won the match for Portugal the last time the teams met in a friendly at Geneva in June 2013.

CROATIA

Croatia have lost just once in their last 10 European Championship finals games – 6 wins & 3 draws. Their penalty shootout loss to Turkey in the Euro 2008 quarter-finals has been considered as a draw here.

Croatia are also unbeaten in their last 10 internationals – 8 wins & 2 draws. This is best record for any team at Euro 2016.

Croatia’s only wins at the knock-out stages of major tournaments came during the 1998 World Cup. At the Euros, they’ve lost 1 & drawn 1 of their knock-out games.

Croatia have played once before at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis (the venue for their match against Portugal), during the 1998 World Cup. They beat Jamaica 3-1 in that match.

Ivan Perisic has been involved in seven Croatian goals at major tournaments – 4 goals & 3 assists.

PORTUGAL

Portugal is the only team that has drawn all its group matches at a European Championship.

Portugal have played the most number of games at European Championships for a team that hasn’t won the tournament – 31.

Portugal have won 7 & drawn 3 of their last 10 competitive matches. Each of the 7 wins was by a single goal margin.

Their last seven goals at the Euros have been scored by either Ronaldo (5) or Nani (2).

One more goal from Ronaldo will see him equal Michel Platini’s record of 9 European Championship finals goals. Roanldo’s goals have come across 4 different European Championships while Plitini scored his 9 at Euro 1984.

After attempting 40 direct free-kicks at major tournaments, Ronaldo is yet to find the back of the net.

Nani is set to earn his 100th Portugal cap when he takes the field against Croatia.
