Bayern Munich vs Arsenal, Champions League – Prediction

[box type=”shadow” align=”alignleft” class=”” width=””]Prediction: Bayern Munich should stay ahead of in form Arsenal tonight. Least, we see one goal’s margin. Obviously, our second favourite is a draw.[/box]

Arsene Wenger is a happy man these days. Arsenal are joint top of the Premier League table after 11 rounds of matches in England. Although this is not an unfamiliar position for Arsenal to be in at this stage of the season, unlike other seasons when they have flattered to deceive and the month of December has exposed their frailties, this season there seems to be something resilient about Wenger’s team. Indeed, their victories in the Premier League has seen them completely dominate the opposition and even outmuscle them at times. One good example is their 3-0 win over arch-rivals Manchester United a few weeks back. Arsenal showed bite that they haven’t shown in ages and United were left chasing shadows.

All said and done, Arsenal’s European form has failed to mirror their domestic progress. They are bottom of their group and in danger of exiting the European scene at a premature stage. This makes it one of the worst times to take on Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena. Bayern have won 10 out of the 11 matches played in the Bundesliga and their winning run of 10 matches only came to a halt last weekend when they failed to score at Eintracht Frankfurt and were held to a goalless draw. Perhaps Arsenal could look at that performance as a ray of hope but if the witness of the Eintracht defenders is any account then they would be better off being on their toes.

One thing that Arsenal can definitely take inspiration from is their own 2-0 victory over the Bavarians a fortnight back at the Emirates. It was one match where Arsenal displayed the grit that has been the talisman of their domestic performances. However, Pep Guardiola is not a manager who likes losing to the same team twice. He will definitely have planned tonight’s fixture well and his players may well have the gameplan memorized by now.

Whatever the approaches may be these are two teams who never fail to entertain. The neutral and fan alike can expect some exciting, free flowing football tonight, reminding us why it is called the beautiful game.
