500 Goals for the mighty Ronaldo

Last night Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 500th career goal as his brace helped Real Madrid to a customary Champions’ League victory over Malmo FF in Sweden. Ronaldo is the record scorer in the Champions League; he has 82 (66 for Real Madrid, 15 for Manchester United).

It has been a meteoric rise for the Portugese – from the lanky teenager at Sporting Lisbon, to the athletic FIFA player of the year 2008 at Manchester United, and finally establishing himself as one of the game’s greatest ever at Real Madrid.

Ronaldo completed 500 goals by playing 753 games – a fantastic record, but that is not the most remarkable fact yet. What has been astonishing is his goal strike ratio in recent years, viz. his time at Real Madrid. He has scored 323 goals in a mere 308 games – a strike rate of more than 100%, one that even a cricket batsman would envy. Add to that, his fitness levels at his current age of 30. He has built his body to resemble that of a Greek god’s and is said to have barely 10% body fat. Don’t expect Cristiano to burn out any time soon. He just keeps getting better and better.
